David “Dogo” Leitner was a Holocaust survivor, one of many. After fleeing from the Nazis and arriving in Israel, he dreamed of the “Bialik” rolls his mother used to make for him in his childhood. In Israel, he came across a falafel stand that reminded him of those rolls, and he ate until there was no corner left in his stomach. From that day on, he decided to celebrate the anniversary of his camp’s liberation every year with two falafel portions and declare “Am Yisrael Chai” with joy!

The Dogo Campaign takes place annually on January 18th. This tradition has attracted many to join in eating Dogo’s special falafel. Achim L’Semel, in collaboration with “Beit HaEdut”, has been, and will continue to be, involved in encouraging fans to participate in this heartfelt custom.

David “Dogo” Leitner passed away on July 27, 2023, but at Achim L’Semel, we will continue his tradition in his memory for many years to come.
